While no specific undergraduate major is required, most students will have a degree in quantitative subject matters such as mathematics, engineering, computer science, physics, etc. All candidates must demonstrate: Ability to do graduate-level business and finance course work Capabilities that will contribute to the overall educational process of the class Strong quantitative background including coursework in: linear algebra multivariate calculus differential equations numerical methods advanced statistics and probability, which includes the following topics: discrete distributions, continuous distributions, density functions, sampling theory, statistical inference, hypothesis testing, ordinary least squares, t-statistics, sampling vs. population moments, chi-square goodness of fit tests, etc. Experience in computational programming (for example, C++) and familiarity with computers as a computational and management tool Excellent writing, speaking, and presentation ability in English Experience with mathematical tools (for example, Matlab) Work or research experience in a quantitative discipline is eecommended, but not required. Exceptional undergraduates with strong quantitative backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Bachelor degrees must be conferred prior to the November MFE Program start date. Experience with statistical and econometric applications (for example, SAS) is recommended

A TOEFL score of at least 560 on the paper and pencil test or 220 on the computer based test is the minimum required for applicants to graduate programs at UCLA; some majors may require higher scores. The GRE or GMAT is required for admission. The GRE measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and critical thinking and analytical writing skills. The GMAT or GRE is required for admission. The GMAT or GRE score is valid for five years and the admissions committee looks at the highest scores if the test was taken more than once. The GMAT is administered as a computer-adaptive test (CAT) three weeks per month, six days per week throughout the year at approximately 400 computer-based testing sites in North America and many other parts of the world.
