Scores from the TOEFL exam are required of all applicants whose first language is not English. Being a U.S. citizen does not automatically exempt an applicant from taking the TOEFL; if the applicant’s first language is not English, the applicant must meet the requirements for an exemption or waiver below or submit TOEFL scores.
Stanford does not accept scores from the IELTS exam.

All applicants are required to take either the GRE or the GMAT, based on the field of study to which they are applying, regardless of previous experience and/or degrees. GRE and GMAT scores are valid for approximately five years from the date taken. For Fall 2019 we will accept GRE or GMAT scores from exams taken between July 1, 2013-December 1, 2018. Scores for tests taken after the deadline will not be considered in our evaluation.
